Madhyapur Thimi is also famous for its tradition of farming the surrounding fields, which has made madhyapur Thimi vegetable garden for Kathmandu Valley. Madhyapur grows the bulk of the vegetable supply to Kathmandu valley. Vegetable grown here are organic.

Manahara, Nagadesh, Pohbu, Bapa, Kausaltar and Lokanthali are famous farms in the town. Here, mainly annual vegetables are planted. Biennial and perennial are not much planted in Madhyapur Thimi. Broadleaved mustard, fenugreek, garden cress, green garlic, green onion, lettuce, spinach, chillic, bull nose chilli, cabbage, carrot, chinese leek, cilantro, etc. are main vegetables planted in the town.

Farming is the main work of Jyapus. They are hard workers by nature. Though they are spread all over Madhyapur Thimi, more are in Nagadesh. Three quaters inhabitants in Nagadesh are Jyapu. They go to their farms early morning and return home late. So it is said that the children do not recognise their parents.
